Spectrum Geophysics Announces Investment in Edgetech 4205

Spectrum Geophysics announces a key investment in the Edgetech 4205 sidescan sonar to boost geophysical survey capabilities

Subsea Technology & Rentals (STR) is delighted to announce that Spectrum Geophysics has purchased an Edgetech 4205 side scan sonar system. This will complement their existing pool of geophysical survey equipment and marks another milestone for Spectrum Geophysics within the industry.

Rising Demand for Sonar and Underwater Technology

STR, who are a representative for EdgeTech in the United Kingdom, have seen an active increase in sales over the past twelve months. These sales are mainly in EdgeTech’s sonar imaging systems and underwater technology. Notably, Spectrum Geophysics has contributed to this growth within the underwater technology sector. This increase supports their global offshore energy customers.

Strengthening Long-Term Service Partnerships

Neil Jackson, STR’s Regional Director EMEA, said, “STR are delighted to continue our long-term relationship as Edgetech’s Authorized Service Centre, where we support both users and customers. To sustain this relationship, we have built a large inventory of stock. Also, our technicians have received specialized training to service EdgeTech’s systems.” For Spectrum Geophysics, such partnerships ensure continuous support and enhanced operational capacity.

Enhancing Survey Capabilities for Offshore Projects

Rob Arnold, Geophysics Director at Spectrum Geophysics, said, “Spectrum is pleased to add the 4205 Side Scan System to complement its existing pool of EdgeTech geophysical survey equipment. Spectrum Geophysics will utilize this advanced equipment on new offshore projects. We will deploy the system immediately on a Southern North Sea debris clearance contract for an offshore wind project.”

Advanced Features of the EdgeTech 4205 System

Doug McGowen, EdgeTech’s Director of Sales & Marketing, said, “The next-generation 4205 is a versatile Side Scan Sonar system that supports almost any survey application, from shallow to deep water operations. The system offers either a tri-frequency side scan sonar configuration or a motion-tolerant, multi-pulse (MP) configuration. Spectrum selected the 540/850kHz MP version of the 4205. This allows surveyors to operate at faster survey speeds or in more adverse weather conditions while still capturing high-quality underwater imagery. Moreover, Spectrum Geophysics can take advantage of this system’s single-pulse high-resolution mode for detailed seafloor imaging. Additionally, operators can use this configuration in a single-pulse high-resolution mode when they require a more detailed view of the seafloor.”
