SENSYS – 33 years of reliable survey solutions!

SENSYS is one of the most advanced and experienced companies in the world regarding magnetometer and electromagnetic surveys systems

SENSYS is one of the most advanced and experienced companies in the world regarding magnetometer and electromagnetic surveys systems. To be precise, with 33 years of experience in development and production of high precision and customer specific solutions in all areas of geophysical measurement systems, SENSYS is a perfect partner for special solutions that need to be tailored to customer needs regardless if the need is for civil or military applications, on water, underwater or on land! That is the expectation they point to themselves to make sure their clients can rely on them.

Talking of reliability, Africa Surveyors had a great moment of interview with Wolfgang Suess, the Managing Director at SENSYS for 7 years and counting. At SENSYS, Wolfgang enjoys the freedom to steer and develop a great team of talented engineers and passionate staff at the work shop to deliver the best sensor and search equipment for the most challenging and sensitive applications – such as searching of bombs, protecting buried history, monitoring energy infrastructure, finding resources and protecting fellow human beings.

Moreover, Wolfgang shares more awareness about SENSYS and how proud he is, of how their devices are contributing in making the world a safer place!

AS: Give us a brief introduction about SENSYS

WS: Founded in 1990, by Dr.-Ing. Andreas Fischer as a one-man business, SENSYS is a medium-sized company specialized on Magnetometer and TDEM detector solutions. Today, the SENSYS team consists of more than 50 employees, one third of them in Research and Development. Everything we supply is developed and designed by us. We manufacture everything here in Germany, sensors, cables, software, electronic components… That way we ensure highest quality.

AS: What is your main product solution?

WS: At SENSYS, the focus is all about measuring magnetic fields. We design and produce fluxgate sensors and develop complete surveying solutions around them. Our devices measure when flying, walking, diving, driving …Wherever precise measurement of magnetic flux density is required. In the air, on land and underwater.

AS: What industries do you serve, and how long have you been serving?

WS: Most of our customers are engaged in the search for unexploded ordnance. However, our equipment is also used in archaeology, geophysical applications, mining, exploration and material analysis. Furthermore, they are used by universities and space agencies. SENSYS products can be found in more than 90 countries all over the world.

AS: What do you believe to have been your biggest business success over the years?

WS: Our biggest success cannot be quantified in numbers. It is probably the fact that the way we make our devices has sharpened users’ awareness for how important it is to collect reliable, redundant data in good quality. Another important milestone we consider to be our merit is that we made airborne surveys accessible for a wide range of users. And we are proud of how our devices contribute in making the world a safer place.

AS: What are the unforgettable projects that you have been involved in? Any of them in Africa?

WS: In many cases we are not involved directly and in many cases the projects are confidential or delicate in other ways. Hence, we do not always get feedback. But we know that our devices have been involved in some great archaeological discoveries in Europe and North America, some of them became World Heritage Sites. Our devices found lost planes in mountains and lakes and contributed to find valuable raw materials all over the planet, a lot of devices are used for that in Africa.

AS: How would you create a broader awareness about the benefits of using your products?

WS: We simply let people use them. Rather than promising what our products can do, letting customers test it for themselves and find out if our equipment meets its target has proven to be a better approach. Does that convince every customer? No, it certainly doesn’t. But our clients appreciate the opportunity to find out for themselves, rather than being talked into something.

AS: What values do you uphold in project delivery?

WS: That can easily be described in two words: Customer first. That is the most important consideration for us. We want our customers to get the right product for their application. If we don’t have it, we make it, and if we can’t make it, we’d rather sell nothing at all than have an unsatisfied customer.

AS: What gives your company a competitive edge?

WS: We believe that our biggest unique selling proposition is our outstanding customer service and our user-friendly and durable devices. We try to design devices that are intuitive and forgiving, but sometimes customers are in the field and just need help. And we’re available, not hidden behind paid hotlines or AI bots that are often far from quick, on-target customer support. We take support personally. And for us, it doesn’t matter how old the device is or whether it’s a big or small sale.

AS: Do you provide certification for your training services?

WS: Yes, we do. We regularly conduct trainings here at the SENSYS facility in Germany. But we also do customer specific trainings here or wherever the client wants us to come to.

AS: What direction do you see the company taking in the next ten years, if you had to guess?

WS: We want to continue our way based on the foundation we placed during the last 33 years. We built up a potential team of researchers, developers and technicians to be competitive and innovative. We want to be the first address when clients in need of reliable survey solutions! Our focus will remain on client orientation and we are looking to increase our involvement with automated and autonomous systems and survey solutions.
